Description:

Birth place of P.L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins, Maryborough (Queensland, Australia) is a family focused Heritage town of visiting worth. Situated on the seminal Bruce Highway that travels all the way to Cairns, Maryborough is 3 hours driving time north of Brisbane. Maryborough can be accessed from the capital city of Brisbane by car, coach or rail.
One of Queensland’s oldest cities, Maryborough enjoys the right of having the best, habited display of, original “Old Queenslander” housing. Lovingly restored, the architecture of Maryborough IS Queensland through to its heart. Built on the stunning Mary River, Maryborough offers a step back into Australian history and a step forward into quality “green” family life. Large back yards, child focused activities and a community that says, “We love our town,” Maryborough is fast becoming a town of family upbringing choice.
Mary Poppins, the town’s most famous icon of all things protective and magical, is well celebrated with a bronze statue outside the magnificent colonial house where the author was born. A FREE walking tour, with guide in period costume, offers a spoonful of sugar to help non-arduous history swallowing by all members of the family.
My visit to Maryborough was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and I hope yours is too. Fly a kite on the banks of the Mary or visit St Paul’s. You’ll be amazed at how P.L. Travers wrote her Australian childhood town into one of the most notable Children’s movies of the century.
